What are the BCA Requirements for Acoustic Underlay?

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) has specific requirements for acoustic underlay. The LnTW (plus a modification factor Ci) must not exceed 62 dB for floors that separate houses. Depending on the area, an acoustic base of at least 4 stars or more may be required. In some stricter areas, a 6-star rating or a certain thickness may be necessary.

In order to comply with BCA standards, CSIRO reports are needed to confirm that the acoustic underlay is certified in the laboratory, rather than on-site. FloorVenue's Marvel SPC hybrid floor is one example of an acoustic base that meets these standards. It has a 6-star acoustic base pre-installed and is 3 mm thick, offering slightly higher acoustic protection than the general silver option. Marvel hybrid floors can be installed almost anywhere, as they have the highest acoustic certification without needing an additional base layer.
